Rami Khater joined USAGM from the Middle East Broadcast Networks where he worked as the Director of Digital Innovation and Development setting digital strategy for all its brands as well oversight of all digital properties. Previously he worked at Al Jazeera English initially as its first “digital producer” then launching a globally renown and award-winning TV and digital program titled The Stream, for which he received an Emmy nomination, multiple Webbys and a Royal Television Society award. Khater is recognized for his groundbreaking work at the forefront of digital, TV and new media with multiple publications and speaking engagements.
He previously worked as a subject matter expert and software / cybersecurity architect where he oversaw the creation and maintenance of a proprietary SIEM (security information and event management) system correlating near real-time data from multiple-end points while applying complex rule-based algorithms to warn and detect potentially harmful activity.
Khater has an MA from Georgetown University’s Communication, Culture and Technology program where he focused on the nexus of new media, telecommunications, society and international affairs. He also received a Graduate Certificate in Arab Studies from Georgetown’s Center for Contemporary Arab Studies in the School of Foreign Service with a concentration on media trends, telecommunications and infrastructure history.
