Statement from the Broadcasting Board of Governors
The Broadcasting Board of Governors released the following statement today:
There are no plans to request broadcasting rights for the U.S. government from the transmitting station at Playa de Pals. The ability of newer and different media and the availability of other transmitting locations have enabled the U.S. to fulfill its broadcasting mission through other avenues.
It was determined in May 2001 that while the transmitting station at Playa de Pals had a long and distinguished history, its continued broadcast operations could no longer be operationally or financially justified. On July 31, 2002, the International Broadcasting Bureau, on behalf of the U.S. government, formally concluded the transfer of the transmitting station at Playa de Pals to Radio National de Espa
