Russian, North Caucasus Services Cover Moscow Subway Attacks
RFE/RL devoted extensive coverage to the two suicide bomb attacks on the Moscow metro, which took place on March 29, killing 40 people. The Russian Service interviewed eyewitnesses to the attacks, relayed official reactions, and kept audiences apprised of the progress of the investigation. The Russian Service also interviewed analysts who shed light on the movement responsible for the attacks, the reactions among Russian society, and the possible political and psychological impact of the attacks. The Russian Service posted video and photos to its website showing the damage caused by the bombs, quoting reactions from Muscovites, and profiling victims of the blasts. The North Caucasus Service had two Moscow correspondents covering the bombings in Moscow, and Service Director Aslan Doukaev appeared on the BBC World Service to discuss the attacks. The North Caucasus Service also had a correspondent in Dagestan who reported from the scene of the March 31 suicide bombings in Kizlyar, which killed 12 people.
