Health Journalism Training
Almaty, Kazahkstan
More than 25 journalists from across Central Asia, including Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, participated in a VOA health journalism training session in Almaty, Nov. 2-3, 2010. The sessions looked at pandemic influenza and preparing for health disasters.
Representatives from local and international health organizations, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, presented information on influenza and infectious diseases. Participants took a field trip to the local Institute of Virology. The journalists also engaged in interactive sessions on their role in communicating with the public.
