BBG Governor Perino Speaks at NAF Event
Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) member Dana Perino and BBG Executive Director Jeffrey Trimble discussed how public media organizations can adapt new technologies to enhance reporting and audience engagement at a New America Foundation event on December 8, 2010 in Washington, DC.
The half-day program, co-sponsored by Rutgers University Institute for Information Policy and Law and the Georgia State University Department of Communications, brought together industry innovators from commercial and public media in domestic and international broadcasting.
“We want to make sure we’re not behind the curve on how people get information,” Perino said. “We’re looking into ways to engage people, and we are trying to be innovative and use the money that we have more effectively.”
Perino highlighted the Board’s recently launched strategic review which encompasses all aspects of U.S. international broadcasting. She encouraged participants to provide input during the public comment process.
Other segments of the event featured a conversation between Lee Bollinger, president of Columbia University, and Susan Glasser, editor-in-chief of Foreign Policy magazine; and panel discussions on the place of international news coverage and the curation of information and audience engagement in public media.
