“El Duque” Makes Appearance on New Marti Show
On March 24, former Major League Baseball pitcher Orlando Hernández Pedroso, also known as “El Duque,” was a guest today on Radio Martí’s “El Revoltillo” (The Scramble).
The groundbreaking new program brings traditional classified ads to the airways. This daily broadcast connects buyers and sellers looking sell or trade goods and services, a free market practice that is often curtailed by the Cuban government.
“El Duque” was born in Villa Clara, Cuba. He is the half brother of pitcher Liván Hernández. As a major league pitcher, his greatest success came as a New York Yankee.
In addition to winning the World Series four times, Hernández played for the “Industriales” team of Havana in the Cuban National Series. He was a fixture on the Cuba national baseball team, and was part of the gold medal-winning Olympic team in Barcelona in 1992.
“It was a pleasure having ‘El Duque’ in our studio,” said Karen Caballero, “El Revoltillo” co-host. “As he talked to people back in Cuba, he began to reminisce about his life in Cuba and recalled many memorable moments about his career in baseball.”
“El Revoltillo” airs daily from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Radio Martí’s AM and shortwave frequencies, and is available online at www.Martinoticias.com.
