CFC honors BBG charitable campaign

The Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area, which each year engages federal employees in the DC metro area with a charitable donation drive, has selected the BBG’s October 18 all-day program with its award for Best Special Event. The award, which honors the “most outstanding mid-campaign rally, volunteer involvement, day of caring or other event that maintained momentum and kept employees informed,” singled out the BBG campaign’s “Parade of Nations” fashion show program for special praise.
The “Parade” fashion show featured BBG employees sporting the traditional garb of their native countries and cultures. Many participants in the show, which drew a near-capacity crowd to the BBG’s auditorium, took to the stage to teach the audience how to say the word “give” in his or her vernacular language.
The BBG’s 2011 campaign wrapped up in February 2012, having raised nearly $160,000 for a wide array of charities involved in the CFC. The figure represents almost 200% of the agency’s 2011 goal, a testament to the generosity of BBG employees and the dedication of the all-volunteer team who spearheaded this year’s campaign.
“Although our event capitalized on the tremendous diversity of our employees, we share so much in common,” said BBG CFC Manager Vicki Brimmer. “Even in these tough economic times, our employees dug deep for the worthy charities involved in the CFC.”
