Alhurra Debuts Co-Production Arab Spring: Syria
Alhurra Television broadcasts its fourth installment of Arab Spring documentaries co-produced with MacNeil/Lehrer Productions. The latest episode, Arab Spring: Syria will debut on Sunday, May 27th.
In Arab Spring: Syria, Alhurra’s cameras go behind the headlines to examine the history of the Syrian regime, the causes of the current conflict and the situation on the ground today. Told through the stories of supporters of the government, and activists opposed to it, Arab Spring: Syria provides a prospective on the evolving situation, from the splintered opposition, to the role of sectarianism and the response from the international community.
Previous episodes of the Arab Spring series include Arab Spring: Tunisia, Arab Spring: Libya and Arab Spring: Egypt. Each episode captures the pulse and sentiment of the people on the street, in the cities, and around the battles that have marked this past year of profound and dramatic change, while seeking insight into the future.
Recent surveys by international research companies such as ACNielsen show that Alhurra has consistently averaged approximately 26 million weekly viewers for the last three years. Alhurra is broadcast on the Nilesat and Arabsat satellites in the Middle East. Alhurra is operated by the non-profit corporation “The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc.” (MBN). MBN is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency. The BBG serves as oversight and as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
