Internet Security Training for World Uyghur Congress
A guidebook to Internet security created for Uyghurs living in the Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region and in diaspora communities around the world was the subject of a training session at the recent World Uyghur Congress (WUC) General Assembly in Tokyo.
The training was led by Carlotta James of Psiphon, a BBG-sponsored provider of Internet anti-censorship tools for citizens living under regimes that censor and restrict access to the free flow of information on the web. As Psiphon’s East Asia Regional Outreach and Operations officer, James coordinates with BBG broadcasters operating in East Asia to distribute the organization’s web proxy and client software.
During the WUC session, James outlined important guidelines for Internet user safety, as well as other techniques for evading digital repression. Read the Uyghur guidebook here (external site).
The WUC is an international organization that represents the collective interest of the Uyghur people both in East Turkestan and abroad.
The Broadcasting Board of Governors is a leader in combating Internet censorship, as well as other technological threats to press freedom including satellite jamming and signal interference.
