Martí Convention Coverage With a Cuban Flavor

The Office of Cuba Broadcasting (OCB) this week began its coverage of the 2012 Republican and Democratic conventions, broadcasting live for all its platforms.
Preparations started months ago and producers and technicians were in Tampa, Fla., for the GOP convention Aug. 27-30. Coverage from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., begins Monday, Sept. 3.
OCB’s team coverage plan includes 14 correspondents, writers, video editors, and support personnel on site. Antena Live, a TV Martí half-hour magazine style show, broadcasts live each convention night at 6:30 p.m.
The OCB package also includes live programming from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the last two nights of each convention, including interviews with Hispanic political leaders, community representatives and expert analysis.
“The purpose is to provide news and information to the Cuban people about issue they care about and how the democratic process works in the U.S.,” said OCB Director Carlos A. García-Pérez.
OCB is part of a larger Broadcasting Board of Governors’ convention coverage operation that includes sister stations VOA, Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa and broadcasts in dozens of languages. In addition to radio and TV, convention reports will be posted on OCB’s Facebook, Twitter and blog sites and available around the clock at Martínoticias.com
The Martís, based in Miami, are operated by the Office of Cuba Broadcasting, part of the independent U.S. government agency, the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
