Prime Minister discusses Libyan Affairs on Alhurra

In an interview yesterday with Alhurra’s Free Hour program, the Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan stated that he hopes Libya regains its status within the international community in two years. He expressed his reservations about the proposed “political isolation law,” warning that it might exclude the majority of the Libyan people.
During his latest trip to Washington, Zeidan urged the U.S. to support rearming of the Libyan army, improving police training, and lifting the freeze on Libyan assets abroad. According to Zeidan, President Obama promised that the U.S. will support Libya to establish security and to build a democratic state. He also said President Obama stressed that the Libyan people should have the freedom to choose and that the U.S. will not interfere in Libya’s internal affairs. Zeidan ruled out federalism and affirmed the importance of decentralization to building his nation. He added that Qatar dissociated itself from Libya after being accused of supporting Islamic movements.
