Alhurra Covers the Arab Summit
Alhurra Television provided extensive coverage of the 24th Arab League Summit held on March 26, 2013, in Doha, Qatar. The Summit had the Syrian crisis at the top of its agenda and was attended by 15 Arab country heads of state. Alhurra provided live coverage of the opening remarks by Emir of Qatar Sheik Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Syrian opposition leader Mouaz al-Khatib, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil al-Arabi and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu,as well as comments by Egyptian President Morsi.
Additionally, Alhurra’s correspondent in Doha reported throughout the day on events as they happened. The network also had reaction from the Arab world. Alhurra’s Al Youm interviewed Egyptian and Yemeni youth who expressed cynicism, as well as hope for the Doha summit. The program also highlighted the key divisions within the Arab League over Syria; and examined why some Egyptians are not happy about Qatar’s emerging role in the region.
Alhurra’s daily discussion program Free Hour examined the rallying of support for the Syrian rebels including Syrian opposition taking a seat at the Summit. The show included an interview with Syrian opposition leader Haitham Al Mallah.
The summit also discussed the need for Palestinian national reconciliation.
