BBG Recognizes Employee Contributions to Combined Federal Campaign
Employees of the Voice of America (VOA) and the International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB) took the time to recognize the efforts of those individuals across the agency who participated in the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), an annual workplace charitable-giving drive for federal employees, at a ceremony this Tuesday in the Cohen Building auditorium.
“The CFC is about connections. Sometimes we are linked to charities because of personal stories; in others, we hear a story, it touches us, and our connection to a cause is made,” said Vicki Brimmer, BBG CFC Manager. “Despite these tough economic times, 363 employees in the Cohen and Switzer Buildings made that connection. Through their generosity they supported charities that feed the hungry, house the homeless, search for cures, protect the environment, and so much more.”
The CFC provides a vehicle for federal employees to donate portions of their salary to the charities of their choice. The effort to raise funds and promote participation is led by an all-volunteer team made up of individuals working at the agency. This year the employee-led effort raised $154,067 to support various charities, nearly doubling its set goal. In addition to financial donations, many events were held over the course of the campaign season, including several rummage sales of donated goods, a bake sale sponsored by the East Asia and Pacific Division, and a “Parade of Nations,” during which employees and their children came to the stage to share personal stories about their countries of origin and the causes they support.
At the ceremony, IBB Director Richard Lobo, VOA Director David Ensor, and IBB Deputy Director Jeffrey Trimble commended the philanthropic efforts of the Eagle Donors to the 2012 campaign, presenting each with a certificate and an Eagle pin. Eagle Donors are those who give one percent or two percent of their salary to the charities of their choice through the CFC. This year the BBG celebrated a banner year of 52 Eagle Donors to the 2012 CFC campaign, including IBB Director Richard Lobo. During the ceremony, officials also recognized the 65 keyworkers in the 2012 campaign, citing their efforts as crucial to the campaign’s success.
