Afia Darfur Named Finalist in the New York Festivals

Afia Darfur’s report, “The Perils of Prosecutors in Darfur,” was named a finalist in the Best Coverage of an Ongoing News Story category at the New York Festivals 2013 awards gala last night. The report, which aired on June 26, 2012, sheds light on the dilemma of appointing public prosecutors to investigate crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Darfur since 2003. Once appointed, prosecutors face the challenge of little authority and widespread impunity.
Afia Darfur began broadcasting to Darfur and eastern Chad on Sept. 29, 2008. The all-news and information program produced by the Middle East Broadcasting Networks focuses on the latest news from Darfur and the plight of its internally displaced people and Darfuri refugees in eastern Chad and the diaspora. The daily 30-minute program is broadcast on shortwave radio throughout Darfur, eastern Chad and other areas of Sudan.
