Alhurra’s on-air promotions win awards
Alhurra Television has won Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at the 2013 PromaxBDA Arabia awards. Alhurra-Iraq’s Final Edition promo won the Gold Award for the Best News or Factual Programming Promo. The Final Edition promo also was awarded the Bronze Award for Best Use of English Typography.
In the category of “Something for Nothing,” Alhurra won two awards. The Alhurra promotion of Radio Sawa took home the Silver award; while Alhurra’s Ramadan greetings promo won Bronze. The “Something for Nothing” category celebrates a simple but effective on-air promotion clearly executed on a small budget (approximately less than $200).
“Every day Alhurra’s promotions department continues to raise the bar and attract audiences through their inventive and original promotions,” stated Brian Conniff, President of the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. MBN manages and operates Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa. “In 30 seconds, they are able to convey programming initiatives as well as campaigns that are striking and compelling.”
Earlier this year, Alhurra was a finalist for the PromaxBDA Global Excellence Award for its promo marking the 2nd anniversary of the Tunisian Revolution.
The PromaxBDA Awards recognize excellence in on-air promotion, branding and advertising. Throughout the world, the PromaxBDA Awards competitions stand for marketing excellence in the media marketing space and collectively, though its numerous regional and sector-specific competitions are regarded as the most prestigious awards for creative endeavor in this field.
Recent surveys by research companies show that Alhurra has consistently had a weekly reach approximately 26 million viewers for the last five years. Alhurra is operated by the non-profit corporation “The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc.” (MBN) which is financed by the U.S. Government through a grant from the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency. The BBG provides oversight and serves as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
