Alhurra wins three CINE awards
Springfield, Va. — Alhurra Television won three 2013 CINE Golden Eagle Awards for Rayheen ala Fain?, Street Pulse and a promo for the online journal Syria Stories.
Rayheen ala Fain? (Arabic for Where Are We Going?) won in the “Televised Reality Division—Verite/Lifestyle” category. The program follows the lives of five Egyptian young adults as they respond to the political, social and economic changes brought about by the January 25th Revolution. Each member of the cast represents different political and socio-economic perspectives. The program highlights their individuality; as well as their interactions with one another as they face issues such as the role of women in society, freedom of expression and the difficulty finding jobs in Egypt.
The Alhurra series Street Pulse was honored for its episode on the dangers of working in Egyptian quarries. Named in the “Televised News Division—Investigative Reporting” category, the episode highlighted the hazards of working in the stone quarries located in El Minya. Street Pulse showed how adults and child labors risk serious injury or death from rock cutting machines, respiratory ailments from stone dust, and intense heat in order to support their families.
Both Rayheen ala Fain? and Street Pulse were short-listed for the 2013 Association for International Broadcasting’s Excellence in Media awards last year.
Alhurra’s third recognition was for the televised spot promoting the online journal Syria Stories in the category of “Commercials and Promotions.” Syria Stories is an online documentary project that tells the stories of the ongoing Syrian civil war on a very personal, human scale. It focuses on six individuals living inside and around Syria who share deeply personal, first-person stories. Syria Stories is produced in partnership with the Broadcasting Board of Governors Office of Digital Design and Innovation (ODDI).
“We are extremely proud of this recognition of the CINE Awards.
