Alhurra Interviews Congressman Pittenger on Terrorism Threat
Congressman Robert Pittenger (R-NC), Chairman of the Congressional Taskforce on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, spoke with Robert Satloff, host of Alhurra’s Inside Washington, about the threats of terrorism and cybersecurity.
During the interview, Pittenger stressed that al-Qaeda’s capacities have gotten much more sophisticated since 9/11 and that terrorism continues to be major concern to Americans.
“We have to be vigilant, and we need to be in defense of liberty,” he explained, adding that there are “extremists out there who want to do harm against this country, some who even call us the Great Satan.”
Cybersecurity is a very important issue, he said. “All of our infrastructure is vulnerable. And we have to be very much on guard and vigilant to protect them.”
Pittenger also discussed the United States’ position in the world, saying, “Ronald Reagan was a strong leader. He did not fire a bullet. But the wall came down, and many hundreds of millions of people were freed. So, I don’t believe that America needs to be around the world firing shots. But I think we should stand strong as a country.”
