Congressman David Price Speaks with VOA Urdu Service
Congressman David Price (D-NC) sat down on Monday with the Voice of America’s Urdu Service for a discussion on a range of topics including Edward Snowden, the NSA surveillance program, and the Iran nuclear negotiations. Price, who has chaired the House Democracy Partnership, told Café DC host Faiz Rehman, that there is more work to be done helping emerging democracies around the world.
“We’re attempting to bring it back, but for eight years, certainly, we’ve been working extensively in 16 countries,” he said. “There’s a lot of unfinished business, but these have been good partnerships.”
“We certainly don’t assume that we are exporting (democracy as) a fixed product. Every country has to work out their own precise way of operating and ensuring their own ways of democratic representation.”
When asked about the future of the U.S., he said he thinks the country is heading in the right direction.
“I am confident that our leaders have chartered a positive course going forward,” he said, adding that partisan divisions within Congress are a challenge.
Café DC is available online and aired weekly on PTV World, Pakistan’s largest terrestrial TV network.
