VOA Provides Comprehensive Coverage of Historic Iran Nuclear Agreement
WASHINGTON D.C., July 14, 2015 – Voice of America has provided extensive, around-the-clock coverage across various platforms on the historic agreement between Iran and the United States, Great Britain, France, China, Russia, plus Germany and the European Union.
As the final agreement was announced in Vienna, the VOA Persian Service broke the news to its Iranian audience at 10:00am Tehran time, first among its international competitors. Following the announcement of the agreement reached by the P5+1, VOA’s coverage included statements from U.S. President Obama and top negotiators, including U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. In fact, VOA Persian was the only news organization to broadcast Secretary Kerry’s entire live presser in Farsi into Iran.
VOA Persian continued its live coverage throughout the day with reactions from world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and insights from guests in D.C., London, Paris and Vienna.
In collaboration with the Persian Service, VOA News Center reporters Victoria Macchi, Heather Murdock, Mary Alice Salinas and State Department Correspondent Pam Dockins filed reports from Vienna during the ongoing negotiations, including in-depth reports on the details of the agreement.
“President Obama deserves a tremendous amount of credit, mindful of the fact that he pursued in spite of the conventional wisdom in Washington which essentially says that diplomacy doesn’t work,” Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council, told VOA’s William Gallo immediately following the announcement.
VOA Persian is one of the leading international news broadcasters in Iran with one-in-five adults watching VOA Persian weekly for in-depth coverage of American, Iranian, and international developments.
