BBG networks mark International Women’s Day
In honor of International Women’s Day, the networks of the BBG are providing special coverage and programming on the contributions of women to contemporary society and history, while highlighting the political and cultural struggles women face in certain countries.
“On International Women’s Day, we highlight the year-long coverage by our networks on women’s issues, challenges and accomplishments, particularly in countries where these stories are grossly underreported,” said John F. Lansing, Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Broadcasting Board of Governors. “But we also celebrate the role of women throughout U.S. international media. The contributions of women throughout our operations – including their lead role in three of the five networks – cannot be overstated.”
The Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting are producing special programming on TV, radio, web and social media platforms that coincide with International Women’s Day.
The BBG networks are providing comprehensive coverage of International Women’s Day around the globe, from hosting debates on the rights of women in Iran; to a profile of Pakistan’s first female truck driver; to a look at women in Turkish politics; to a live Q&A with a leading Chinese human rights activist; to a call-in show in Cambodia; to an examination of the impact of women in Burmese government; to profiles of successful women across the Arab world; to reporting on a special conference in Algeria on fighting violence against women; to a look at the challenges of women refugees.
