Springfield, Va. — Alhurra Television launches Egypt Talks, a weekly program which roams Egypt and brings the latest on topics of importance to the Egyptian viewers. The new live program, which combines field reporting and studio interviews, tackles a broad range of topics including: political, security, economic, social and lifestyle. Egypt Talks debuts May 27 at 11:00 p.m. (Cairo time) and is hosted by Dina Moussa.
The 45-minute program starts with the events of the week and focuses on a single topic impacting the lives of Egyptians. In addition to expert guests in the studio, Egypt Talks also goes to the streets of Cairo where Egyptian citizens can ask questions to the studio guests and share their opinions with Alhurra’s audience. The program then goes outside of Cairo and opens a new window on the provinces to focus on their interests, concerns and how the Cairo events impact them. It ends with a short magazine on the top trending stories about Egypt on social media, including a collage of pictures sent in by the audience of what they saw around Egypt this past week.
“Egypt Talks provides a platform for Egyptians throughout the country to discuss topics that are important to them,” stated Brian Conniff, President of Middle East Broadcasting Networks (MBN). MBN manages and oversees Alhurra TV. “The program will seek voices that are not usually heard on other networks, and offer balanced and relevant content that resonates with the Egyptian people.”
Egypt Talks is the latest Alhurra show to be based in Egypt. Other shows include Sit B’Mit Ragel and Street Pulse. In addition, Cairo serves as one of the main bureaus of Alhurra’s flagship program Al Youm. More information about Egypt Talks can be found on its Facebook page.
MBN is non-profit corporate media outlet financed by the U.S. government through a grant from U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), an independent federal agency. The USAGM serves as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
