RFA report forces Chinese authorities to admit detainment of asylum seekers
Six months after their forcible repatriation from Thailand, the whereabouts of two Chinese asylum seekers, remain unknown, their families told RFA.
Sichuan-based rights activist Jiang Yefei and Henan activist Dong Guangping, who had fled persecution in their home country, were handed over by Thai police to Chinese authorities on Nov. 13, 2015, in a move that drew strong criticism from the United Nations.
RFA’s Cantonese Service interviewed Jiang and Dong’s family members who now settles in Canada.
After RFA reported this story on May 13, 2016, the Chinese authorities confirmed their detention in Chongqing days later.
