Supported by USAID, the Journalist Training workshop was designed to inform journalists about “Ending Preventable Child and Maternal Death.” Sarkar Kabiruddin from VOA Bangla service was accompanied by Dr. Samina Choudhury Project Management Specialist Office of OPHNE USAID Bangladesh to begin the workshop. Dr. Samina, in emphasized the importance of VOA-USAID partnership in organizing such a well-informed training workshop for the journalists. She also spoke of the achievement of Government of Bangladesh in achieving progress aligning the MDG of the country.Dr. Samina also commented that she expected the workshop to help and enhance the skills of the journalists reporting on health related issues in particular. Dr. Ishtiaq Mannan Director of Health & Nutrition Mamoni , Save The Children shared his experience on Child and maternal preventable death. On the second day of the workshop, there was a field visit to Mamoni project of Save The Children in Jointapur Upazila Parishad Health Complex Sylhet. Upon returning from the site, Dr. Ubaidur Rob-Country Director of Population Council gave the participant journalists a detail idea about maternal mortality situation in Bangladesh from a demographers point of view.
