Autism: Breaking the Silence
The World Health Organization says 1 in 160 children in the world has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). While statistics are unknown in many developing countries, the WHO says the prevalence of ASD appears to be increasing globally. In Africa, many people with Autism are confronted with challenges including late or no diagnosis, rejection, isolation, and abuse, due to factors such as inadequate healthcare, poor awareness or negative cultural beliefs.
Voice of America’s Africa Division invites you to a televised panel discussion demystifying some of the misunderstanding around Autism and the challenges faced by families.
The discussion will be a special edition of VOA’s Straight Talk Africa television program simulcast on radio, and will be streamed live on the program’s Facebook page.
