VOA’s Myroslava Gongadze selected as 2019 Nieman Fellow
Washington, D.C. — Myroslava Gongadze, Chief of VOA’s Ukrainian Service, is one of 27 fellows in the 2019 class selected by Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation of Journalism. She will study propaganda and strategies to counter it, in light of a new era of Russian disinformation.
Gongadze is an award-winning journalist and subject matter expert on politics, democratization and media in Ukraine. Prior to VOA, she worked as a journalist, editor, producer and public relations officer in Ukraine and the United States for organizations such as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Internews, International Republican Institute and National Democratic Institute. In 2001, she was awarded a Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellowship to study the role of media in Ukraine’s transition to democracy. The Ukrainian news and analysis magazine “New Time” included Gongadze among the 100 most successful women in Ukraine.
In addition to her studies at Harvard, Gongadze will participate in Nieman seminars, workshops and master classes and will conduct research with Harvard scholars and other leading thinkers in the Cambridge, Mass. area.
