Sonny Young’s lifelong love of sports and radio has shined brightly through his Sonny Side of Sports show and throughout his 31-year career at the Voice of America. At VOA, Young has covered many of the world’s most popular sporting events, including the Olympics, the World Cup soccer finals and the World Athletic Championships. Two of his biggest sporting thrills were meeting boyhood heroes Smokin’ Joe Frazier, the late former world heavyweight boxing champion, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
