Remembering Gene Pell
The U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) is saddened to learn of the passing of Gene Pell, a veteran journalist who dedicated his career to providing accurate, professional news and information to audiences who are denied the basic right of press freedom.
Gene joined the Voice of America (VOA) in 1980 as Deputy Director and went on to become Director of the network in 1983. After his time at VOA, he served as President of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) for eight years. Gene took on many important roles within our public service media, and USAGM is grateful for his many years of service.
On behalf of the USAGM family, I offer my deepest condolences to Gene’s family. We will always remember him as a champion for our vital mission.
