Opening America to audiences across the Middle East
Springfield, VA — The Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. (MBN) is launching three new projects that showcase America and Americana to audiences across the Middle East and North Africa.
Alhurra Television’s America-The Melting Pot explores the different cultures from around the world that make up this country. The program highlights how those who came to the U.S. integrated their cultural heritage into the fabric of America, through their food, traditions and even the people themselves. Each week the program profiles a different region of the world and explains how its culture has become intertwined in shaping America what it is today. America-The Melting Pot airs Fridays at 16:00 (all times GMT).
Huna America is a twice-weekly magazine show on Sawa Radio. The first half of each episode highlights an important news story that is occurring in the U.S. with expert analysis. The second half of the program features the technological, educational and social aspects of life in America with reports from across the nation. Listeners will get insights into the U.S. and be able to see the similarities and differences to their own country. Huna America airs Saturdays and Sundays at 18:00.
MBN’s latest podcast, “American Highlights” is a weekly look into America, its culture and people. Each Thursday a new episode will interview people from across the country who can illuminate America’s history and how it impacts contemporary issues facing the U.S. The episodes will narrate and elucidate what makes America unique.
“For some in the region, their only exposure to the U.S. is the latest statement from the White House or what they see in movies. These programs and podcast show the true America and provide a better understanding of the history and people that make up this country. Audiences can see and hear for themselves in Arabic, different aspects of the U.S. and Americana,” stated MBN Acting President Hassan Shwiki. MBN manages and oversees Alhurra Television and Sawa Radio. “These shows exemplify the part of MBN’s mission to broadcast accurate and objective news and information about the U.S. and we are providing this content through different outlets so that audiences can access the information in the format they prefer.”
These new projects enhance MBN’s current programming that highlights U.S. news and policy issues including Alhurra’s From the Capital, Decision Capital and Inside Washington.
MBN is non-profit corporate media outlet financed by the U.S. government through a grant from U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), an independent federal agency. The USAGM serves as a firewall to protect the professional independence and integrity of the broadcasters.
