Over the course of three days, 26 journalists from various regions of Colombia gathered in Bogota with the objective of enhancing their skills in investigating, developing, and writing stories and articles aimed at combating environmental crimes.
Using modern technologies, mobile apps, and smartphones, and guided by the principles of “Solutions journalism,” participants engaged in a learning experience that took place from October 18 to 20, 2023. They focused on various types of environmental offenses, including deforestation, mining, illegal wildlife trade, land conversion, and unsustainable fishing. The journalists transformed their findings into text, audio, and video formats, subsequently sharing them across various social media platforms.
As the workshop drew to a close, participants created their own videos and engaged in discussions on security measures and the ethical responsibilities of journalists in addressing and preventing environmental crimes.
This second course was organized by USAGM Media Development and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
