The workshop on “Ethical Use of AI in Journalism” was focused on stress testing the latest AI technologies. At the moment, the media and tech spaces are flooded with many AI-powered tools that are essentially the same models with new packaging. Navigating the rapidly growing number of apps and plugins can be daunting. So, over three days, the experts worked with journalists and media professionals from all over Thailand to help the paprticipants try out over 10 tools to try and understand which ones can be helpful in their work. They also evaluated other factors like accuracy and ethics. With so much hype surrounding AI tools, it’s essential to consider whether they can truly deliver on their promises. The training aimed to equip journalists with the skills to critically evaluate AI tools and determine when it’s ethical to use them. They also explored the importance of reporting on AI and its implications in various industries. After three days of hands-on experience and discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of AI, which they will bring back to their newsrooms and colleagues.
