USAGM offered a three-day workshop for Burmese media outlets based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The training focused on the role of news and information in a community, basic journalistic principles, and mobile journalism. The hands-on workshop included working groups, discussions, videos, presentations, and interviews. The fourteen journalists who attended the training were especially interested in learning basic digital security methods as two new Burmese media encrypted smartphone apps were unveiled to the trainees. Participants also engaged in discussions on the future of journalism, particularly in Burma.
